The geopolitical vulnerability of the AI boom has always been its highly concentrated physical supply chain. Today, that vulnerability eased slightly as Taiwanese manufacturing giant Wistron opened its first U.S. facility in Fort Worth, Texas, establishing a critical domestic hub for NVIDIA AI hardware manufacturing.

The facility will produce the upcoming GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Superchip and the next-generation Vera Rubin Superchip. These systems are the computational bedrock for the frontier models currently being trained by hyperscalers and AI labs.
To meet the insatiable demand of US cloud providers, the plant aims to scale production to tens of thousands of boards per month. This ramp-up will require a highly skilled local workforce, with Wistron projecting the creation of up to 1,000 technical jobs in Fort Worth by the end of 2026.
The Strategic Pivot to US AI Hardware Manufacturing
From a strategic perspective, the D1 facility is less about labor costs and entirely about supply chain resilience. Up until now, the physical pipeline for high-end AI servers has been heavily reliant on complex logistics spanning Taiwan, China, and Mexico. By moving final assembly and systems integration to Texas, NVIDIA and Wistron are offering American hyperscalers a localized, secure, and logistically simpler procurement path.
Furthermore, this move aligns with broader federal efforts to onshore critical technology. While the CHIPS Act has focused heavily on silicon fabrication, the backend system integration—where chips are actually turned into functional data center servers—is just as vital. Wistron’s investment proves that AI hardware manufacturing is no longer a purely offshore endeavor.
